RICE@37 – Our Story of becoming a Friend, Philosopher and Guide while shaping careers.
Prof. Samit Ray, Chairman of Rice Group has been the life and soul behind RICE Education, since it was established. He started his career as a software professional in the ’80s and quickly realised that not many candidates from West Bengal were able to qualify for the state and national competitive examinations. Prof. Samit Ray, the man who has always held the reins to steer his students to reach upto the stars, started Roy's Institute of Competitive Examinations Private Limited (RICE) in 1985. The institute started with a single classroom and a bunch of 40 students taking admission in the northern fringes of Kolkata, of which 36 students with his guidance got selected in various competitive exams. There has been no turning back since then. It is since then, the institute has been relentlessly striving to establish itself in the forefronts of academics by moulding young individuals to become the professional leaders of tomorrow.
The recipe for success is a methodology unique to RICE, comprising a process called Capacity Buildup. At RICE, students are given professional training to overcome challenges posed by competitive examinations for the State Civil Services, PSC, UPSC, School Service Commission, Banking, Rail, Staff Selection Commission, IAS, IPS and so forth. Interactive classes, recurrent testing, special exams, Mission 100 test series, these are some of the tools that help the students expand their horizon.
The institute has over 16 centres across West Bengal headquartered at Dishari Bhawan (Belgharia). The emergence of new centres, higher rankings of RICE place the institute at a unique position amongst top competitive government exam preparators of the country. RICE has spread its wings as:

RICE has launched a Digital Platform ‘RiceSmart.in’ to deliver the entire coaching of the competitive exams to distant students online. The highly developed and technologically sophisticated mobile application is now widely available to a large number of dedicated students and working professionals, even in the district areas to enable quality remote learning experience. The platform also puts a strong emphasis on a hybrid mode of education delivery and offers to strike the right balance between online and offline mode of teaching to ensure that students are able to crack the government exams. Today, RICE has emerged as a name that ignites aspirations in young minds for a bright future, because with RICE, it is possible!
RICE was not built in a day, it has only been possible due to the meticulous work put in by everyone involved at RICE. July 1st is a special day, as the entire institute holds a chance to reflect not only the beginning of the institution but also on the significant development since the institute’s inception. The year 2022 is a special year for us as this year we flag off the celebrations of the 37th Foundation Day.
