The booming Ed-tech Industry

After the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the closure of educational institutions, a boost for creating an alternate system of traditional education has been observed. The pandemic has also highlighted the need to create a strong online environment to provide sustainability in learning. As a result, the opening up of the Ed-tech industry has been accelerated. The educational landscape of India has been changed with the constant development of new age education. The increasing availability of the Internet with affordable data packages created a demand for quality education through various online learning platforms. The Ed-tech industry is currently booming as all educational institutions are adopting a hybrid approach for learning. The use of technology in education is an important step in this direction. As a result, the need for the opening up of the Ed-tech industry in the country has been increased in order to move ahead and keep up with the global trends.
A broader Ed-tech policy should focus on four key elements -- providing access to learning, especially to disadvantaged groups activating the teaching, learning, and evaluation process facilitating teacher training and continuous professional development including the planning, management, and monitoring processes. The Ed-tech industry enhances educational productivity with standard learning design to deliver better quality education. The recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 further encourage the government’s policy priorities for online education. The policy envisages technology as an integral part of education planning, management, administration, teaching, learning, assessment, teachers’ training, and professional development. One of its recommendations is to apply technology in education through app-based learning, online student communities, and lesson delivery beyond ‘chalk and talk.’
The Ed-tech industry has modernized our education system positively. Students can learn according to their speed, style and learning capacity. Studying online encourages students to start their own learning as well as transforms them into active and lifelong learners. Various institutions are already leveraging Ed-tech platforms to aid their own learning curriculum. Through Ed-tech industry, a student from a remote area also gets a chance to learn from the best teachers. The courses provide the liberty to learners to personalize the process of learning and to choose the content or course of their interest and demand. This has led to an accelerated shift towards career-oriented learning, up-skilling and reskilling using online platforms. Students can experience interactive classrooms, individualistic guidance and doubt clearing sessions. App-based Ed-tech platforms provide mobile accessibility which is an easier and cheaper medium for students than using desktop or laptop. These apps can also be used to conduct tests, assign work and submit assignments, and even assess the delivery and final understanding. Students can also watch the recorded video of classes. Teachers are using many learning tools and use various graphics and pictures to make the lesson easier for students. With such a setup, students will get opportunities to engage better in their online classroom. Education powered via technology as an enabler is becoming more multifaceted, flexible, inclusive, and affordable. Technology will support efficient, transparent, personalized, scalable, and accountable systems which will provide the best learning experiences.
The booming Ed-tech industry also creates job opportunities leading to extensive hiring. As the role of the teacher moved from merely delivering content to focusing more time on mentoring students, these platforms give teachers the tools to focus on the students.
