SSC Stenographer 2023 Selection Process

Every year, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) administers the Stenographer exam, consisting of two distinct stages: a Written Test and a Shorthand Skill Test. To obtain the appointment letter for the position of Stenographer Grade C and D, candidates must successfully qualify in both stages of the examination. SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern 2023

To select qualified candidates, the SSC Stenographer Exam will undergo a two-stage process. The initial stage involves the Grade C and D written exam, which is conducted online and incorporates multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Following this, a shorthand proficiency exam is administered to evaluate skill sets across diverse domains. Shorthand Skill Test

This test is conducted for both computer-based and paper-based formats. Depending on the candidate’s marks obtained, a passage of either 800 or 1000 words per minute (wpm) will be dictated during the test, for Group C and Group D. Below is the syllabus for the SSC Stenographer Skill Test

  • For the Stenographer Group ‘D’ category, a passage of 800 words will be dictated at a speed of 80 words per minute.
  • For the Stenographer Group ‘C’ category, a passage of 1000 words will be dictated at a speed of 100 words per minute.
  • After the dictation, the shorthand passage needs to be transcribed on a computer within 50 minutes for Grade D and 40 minutes for Grade C.

SSC Stenographer 2023 Qualifying Criteria

To qualify for the shorthand stage, candidates must first achieve the cut-off score established by the SSC. The qualifying marks for the written test differ between Stenographers in Grade C and Grade D.

Upon qualifying for the written test, candidates will become eligible to appear for the qualifying shorthand skill test. The shorthand skill test holds a qualifying nature, indicating its importance in assessing the candidates’ proficiency and suitability.

Candidates’ positions in the merit list will be determined according to the marks they obtain on the written test. The following are the eligibility criteria for the shorthand skill test, applicable to SSC Stenographers in Grades C and D.

SSC Stenographer 2023- Marking Scheme 

  • Time duration: Two hour
  • Number of Questions: 200
  • Total Marks: 200 marks
  • Mark for each correct answer: 1 mark
  • Deducting marks for each wrong answer: 0.25 marks
  • Marking for unattempted questions: No mark

Note: In the shorthand skill test, there will be negative markings for every wrong word used.

SSC Stenographer Salary 2023

As per the Stenographer Notification, the pay scale for Grade C is 9300-34800, while for Grade D it is 5200-20200. The salary of SSC Stenographers includes various allowances, such as:

SSC Stenographer 2023 Result

The date for the release of the SSC Stenographer Exam Result will be announced by SSC on its official website. When there is a tie in scores among candidates in the Tier-I examinations, the merit will be determined by following the below criteria in sequential order until the tie is resolved:

  1. The total marks obtained in the Tier-I Examination.
  2. Date of birth, giving priority to older candidates.
  3. Alphabetical order based on the first names of the candidates.

FAQ’S

The Staff Selection Commission of India (SSC) issued the official SSC Stenographer 2023 Notification for 1207 Grade C and D positions on August 2, 2023, along with all relevant information about the recruitment drive.

A candidate is required to be at least a 12th pass from a recognized Board. He/she must be able to produce the required documents when asked for verification after qualifying for the SSC Stenographer Exam.

Apart from that a candidate must lie in the age domain of 18-30 years to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer Grade C exam and in the age domain of 18-27 years to be eligible for the SSC Stenographer Grade D exam.

SSC Stenographer Notification states the pay scale of 9300-34800 (for Grade C) and the pay scale of 5200-20200 (for Grade D).
The following allowances are included in the SSC Stenographer’s Salary:

3. Transport Allowance

SSC Stenographer is an All India Level Examination held annually to select candidates for non-gazetted Stenographer Grade C and Grade D positions in various government ministries, departments, and offices.

The SSC Stenographer Skill Test is done on both computers and Paper. The candidates will be dictated a passage of 800 and 1000 wpm for Group D and C respectively, depending upon the marks obtained by the candidate.

• For Stenographer Group ‘D’: 800 words @80 words per minute (w.p.m).
• For Stenographer Group ‘C’: 1000 words @100 words per minute (w.p.m).
The shorthand passage will then have to be transcribed on a computer in 50 minutes for Grade D and 40 minutes for Grade C. A candidate must practice the typing speed in order to qualify for this skill test.
